TRADITIONS IN SARDINIA
|
- ARDIA
Ardia is a ritual horse-race. It takes place every year in Sedilo, a town in the province of Oristano, the 6th and the 7th of July. Dozens of horsemen throw themselves in a crazy race in honour of Saint Costantino: devotion, dust, sun, fiery horses, competition... all this is Ardia.
- THE HOLY WEEK RITES
Passion, death, life. In Sardinia, faith and tradition meet in the Mistery of the Resurrection of Christ. The Holy Week rites are evocative events that you can't miss.
- THE FESTIVAL OF SANT'EFISIO
Sardinia's most important religious event: hundreds of pilgrims gather in Cagliari from all over the Island to honour the Saint, wearing traditional costumes. Decorated carts, dozens of riders, songs, sounds, colours...
- CARNIVAL
black masks, wooden, dark, goat-men, ox-men, covered with sheep skins, big cowbells, a slow, rythmical gait, wine, sweets, ancient rites come back to life.
- THE TRADITIONAL COSTUME
At popular festivals or religious feasts, the traditional costumes make up a fresco displaying the island's artistic patrimony.
