THE "GIUDICALE" AGE
The XIIth and XIIIth centuries were characterised by a flourishing economy based on wine. Many laws, which varied from area to area, prove the importance of grapevine cultivation.
In the province of Sassari it was forbidden to plant new vineyards and to import wine: this bears witness to a very flourishing economy.
The Carta de Logu was the first Sardinian law text: it proves that vineyards were protected by very strict rules, and corporal punishments, such as hand cutting, were set for law-breakers.
