PERDA LIANA
a natural monument in Barbagia
What: Perda Liana Mountain, the most famous among the calcareous "tacchus", stands out like a solitary giant.
- Province: Nuoro
- Subregion: Barbagia di Seulo
- Municipality: Gairo
- Place: Demanio Forestale of Montarbu
Perda Liana Mountain (1293mt) dominates the whole territory and is visible from far away. Its geological nature distinguishes it from the surrounding rocks. It consists of Mesozoic limestone, overlooking the ancient Paleozoic schist. Around the mountain there are limestone rocks, some of them very large in size, which have fallen from the summit.
Only expert mountain climbers can reach the top, but the view from the foot of the
mountain is breathtaking as well: looking northwards you can see the southern face of the Gennargentu mountains, southwards there is the spectacular view of the State Forest of Montarbu Plateau. The plateau is crossed by river beds, the deepest of which is Rio Pardu. To the east, the view takes in Cuccuru Mufloni (1232 mt) and P. Edorru (1236 mt), which partly conceals the Lago Alto of Flumedosa (Large Lake).
There are very few trees at this height. Vegetation mainly consists in heather and strawberry-trees. In the past, this area was undoubtedly covered by a forest of holm-oaks. The State Forest of Montarbu has the only remaining examples. To the south, there are large pastures. Moufflon, foxes, wild boar, falcons and pigeons are the most common animals in this area.
