10 INTERESTING THINGS TO SEE
- Ancient Nora
the Phoenician and Punic-Roman town of Nora (VIII cent. B.C. - VIII cent. A.D.)
is set at the feet of a headland, dominated by a sixteenth century Spanish Tower.
It was an important trading centre in the Meditaerranean sea.
There are ruins dating back to the Punic period, quarters, houses and sanctuaries, as the Temple of the Goddess Tanit and a partly preserved necropolis.
Thermal structures with mosaics, the Forum, a beautiful theatre, the market place, temples, houses and large underground pipes.
- Visit the Spanish Towers
visit the coastal towers built by the Spaniards starting in 1500, in order to control the pirates' attacks.
The Chia Tower, built on the Punic acropolis of Bithia, an imposing truncated-conic tower (diameter 10 m./13 m. high). On its top there are traces of two wooden watchtowers and three embrasures.
The other tower is Pixini, which is located on the headland between Capo Spartivento and Teulada. It is shaped like an upside-down bucket with merlons and embrasures on the top. It is about 9 m. high and its diameter is 10 m.
- The Chia dunes
On the "Su Cardolinu" and Porto Campana beaches, in front of the crystal-clear sea, enormous golden coloured sand dunes, shaped by the wind. Sit under the "coccoloni junipers" and enjoy the view.
A natural scenery which has few comparisons.
- The Aquarium in Pula
for those who love sea-life, the Aquarium "Laguna di Nora" and its Pavilion on Cetaceans.
- The Romanesque Churches in the south-west
we suggest you visit at least three churches, not far from Chia, which are important from an historical and artistic point of view :
the small Church of Sant'Efisio, built on a pre-existing paleochristian area, in Romanesque style;
the parish church of Villa San Pietro, a Romanesque church with Arab influences;
the Pisan-Romanesque church of Santa Maria in Tratalias.
- The "Is Cannoneris" Forest
on the northern side of Domus de Maria, the hills of the "Is Cannoneris" Nature Reserve are followed by the mountains.
Along the paths, through lentisks and blueberries, searching for deer and boars, an extraordinary palce if you love nature.
- Trip to the Sant'Antioco and San Pietro islands
less than 80 km away, following the coastal road to Teulada you will reach the ships to the islands.
We suggest you leave early in the morning, to better enjoy the baeuty of this area and Carloforte. The island of San Pietro is very characteristic, if you can stay for more than one day.
- Panoramic tour
following the coastal road which runs along the south-eastern coast, youcan enjoy enchanting views. Move west, towards Sant'Antioco: a beautiful landscape stretches from Capo Teulada to the Palmas Gulf ponds.
- From Chia to Giba
an approx. 51 km itinerary (move towards Domus de Maria, from here proceed on the ss 195 to Giba), it takes about 50 minutes.
We suggest you stop to taste local traditional dishes, Carignano wine, pillus with wild fennel, the sheep and goat hams from Teulada.

taking the ss 195 you reach Cagliari in 45 min.: a night-stay is worth in this town rich in history, monuments and charm.
