THE  WEAVING  TECHNIQUE

Once picked, the asphodel is left in the field for a period of 10-20 days: in this way it softens and can be split vertically.
Then the plants are left to dry in the sun, usually scattered in small bunches or fanwise in courtyards and streets.
When s'iscraria is sufficiently dry, it is put into bundles, sos mannucros, which are placed in the house in a dry place where they can be kept for a long time.

Before starting the actual weaving, the asphodel is immersed in a basin for 5 or 6 hours so that it becomes soft and pliant.
Then the bark (sas'orrias) is separated from the pithy part of the plant (sa matha).
The bark is wound around the soft part and holds the slender branches together.

To make holes and sew, an awl (su raju) and a large pointed needle made from a cattle shin-bone split vertically are used.
