10 THINGS YOU SHOULDN'T MISS

  1. An excursion by boat
You should spend at least one day on a boat to thoroughly appreciate the wonders of an extraordinary sea like that of the south-western side of Sardinia, along the coast to the beach of Punta Is Molentis or towards the cliffs of Cavoli and of Serpentara, which are covered by Mediterranean plants and inhabited by hares and Alexandrine rats.
Raising your eyes you can admire hawks, shags and shearwaters.
  2. Diving
An underwater excursion is another experience you shouldn't miss (better if guided by expert guides, contact the local diving centres). You will discover the depths of Villasimius, which are famous for their extraordinary beauty and the rich naturalistic value.
  3. Panoramic tour
We suggest sunset. Choose a day with no mist (soon after the northwest wind has blown). Wait until late afternoon and enjoy one of the many panoramic views on the coast. The view of the Gulf of Carbonara is extraordinary: it is enclosed by the homonymous headland in the east, and by Capo Boi in the west.
  4. An excursion in the mountains
There is an extremely enchanting and uncontaminated mountain-landscape next to the coast and the thick maquis. The area is surrounded by Mt. Minniminni and Bruncu Mont'Arbu and Maria in the north, while Mt. Macioni stands in the east. This wonderful territory is part of the Sette Fratelli Park and is ann area of great landscape-interest for its beautiful woods, the rocky pinnacles and the overhanging rocks.
The typical place for trekking lovers and excursions in the mountains.
  5. Typical food
Burrida is very good (made of cat-fish, walnuts and a vinegar sauce), but another typical dish of the area are fried gianchettus, tiny fish. Oranges and cherry growing is famous too. You can buy tasty sheep cheese, ricotta (kind of cottage cheese) and fiore sardo from private citizens.
Honey and olive oil are extremely good too. Typical Campidano sweets.
  6. Wines
Capo Ferrato is the local wine: it is a geographical name of Cannonau, coming from vineyards of Muravera, San Vito, Villaputzu and Villasimius. It is a red-ruby coloured wine, with a sufficiently intense fragrance and a very high alcoholic content.
  7. An afternoon at the pond
The coastal pond of Notteri is not very wide and is 50 cm deep. It is the ideal destination for birdwatching and photography lovers, due to its avifauna and its natural surrounding.
  8. A night at "Pejote"
It is a Mexican restaurant where you can eat spicy dishes and...dance on the tables, to cheerful and engaging music.
  9. Visit to the "Fortezza Vecchia" (Old Fortress)
It is a coastal fortress built in the fourteenth century and renovated at the end of the sixteenth century by Spanish. It was in use until the first half of the XIXth century, it was then abandoned. It is worth a visit.
  10. Visit to the exhibition "I Fenici a Villasimius" (Phoenicians at Villasimius)
At the archaeological Museum, from 15th June to 15th September from 10 am to 12.30 am and from 19 PM to 24 PM (closed on Monday). For the rest of the year on Friday/Saturday/ Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
